About the Academy

The District Leadership Academy brings Rotarians together across district lines to deepen their Rotary knowledge, strengthen practical leadership skills, and build relationships that continue long after graduation.

A Multi-District Academy

DLA primarily serves Rotarians from Districts 6110 and 5750, with a limited number of places available to applicants from other Rotary districts. Each class is intentionally limited to no more than 50 participants.

This multi-district model brings together a broader cross-section of Rotary clubs. Participants encounter new perspectives, exchange ideas they can adapt for their own clubs, and develop a wider network of Rotarians who often become trusted colleagues and friends.

Our Story

The District Leadership Academy was founded in 1997 by Harriett Schloer of the Rotary Club of Bend High Desert in District 5110.

District 6110 participated in the established program until the early 2020s, when it assumed responsibility for operating the Academy for the district. In 2024, the program expanded to neighboring District 5750, beginning DLA’s next chapter as a multi-district learning community.

Program Leadership

Roy Wood, Ph.D., serves as DLA Dean and program leader. Each module also features guest speakers drawn from across Rotary districts, including experienced Rotary leaders and subject-matter experts with professional knowledge related to the course topic.

Together, the program team helps participants connect Rotary knowledge with the practical work of strengthening clubs, leading service, communicating impact, supporting membership, managing change, and preparing for broader leadership.
