DLA Student Requirements

The Leadership Academy is a seven-month series of online modules designed to prepare Rotarians to be more effective leaders at the Club and District levels.  The District Leadership Academy requires that each participant make time to complete all the coursework and have the dedication and commitment to see the program through to completion. Typical participants should plan to spend 5-7 hours per week on Academy assignments.

Please read the specific requirements below.  If you have questions or concerns about any of these requirements, please contact the Leadership Academy Dean.

TECHNOLOGY

  1. You must have access to a personal computer (PC or Mac) and the following software:
    • Word Processor – Microsoft Word, Apple Pages, OpenOffice Writer, or a word processor that can read (or import) and write (or export) MS-Word file format.
    • Web Browser – Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox should all work with our online virtual classroom. You may test other preferred browsers in the online classroom to see if they work. If not, you may need to shift to one of the named browsers above.
    • Email – this can be web-based or an application on your computer. You will need to check this frequently for communications related to the Academy.
    • PDF Reader – The Adobe Acrobat PDF reader is available for free at https://get.adobe.com/reader. Please download and install this app if you do not already have it on your computer.
    • Zoom – Register and install this software on your computer if you do not already have it at https://zoom.us.
  2. You must have high-speed internet service (fiber, cable, DSL, etc) to be able to use the virtual online classroom. You will need a webcam and microphone/speakers (or a good headset) to participate in Zoom video calls.

You should be confident in your ability to:

  1. Use email, web browser, and internet search engines,
  2. Create folders and files,

Since some of your projects will require interaction with your Club’s leaders, please get your Club President’s approval to attend the course. We also recommend that your Club reimburse you for your tuition on completion of the course, since you will become a better, more knowledgeable member of your Club as a result of attending DLA.

In addition to coursework, participants should plan to attend District Conference and the DLA Graduation in May.
